Post #17 - Energy


 In the picture above, the pink pen has potential energy. Potential energy can be calculated by mass x gravity x change in height. Objects at rest tend to have potential energy, but they must have a height greater than zero.
In the picture above the pen has kinetic energy. Kinetic means the energy of motion. This is relative to the picture because the pen is in motion falling downwards. Kinetic energy can be calculated by 0.5 x mass x velocity^2.

The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form.

Work is change in energy and can be calculated by force x distance. Energy's unit is N x mass or joules.

The area under a curve of a force vs. distance graph is work done.

The slope of a force vs. distance graph is spring constant.
